What stays on your device
Your puzzles, your progress, your name and color, and your settings are kept on your device: in the app's own storage, or in your browser's storage for the web version. They never leave it unless you play with someone (see below). Uninstalling the app, or clearing this site's data in your browser, deletes them.
When you play with others
- Same Wi-Fi: devices talk directly to each other on your network. Nothing goes through us.
- Online (with a game code) and on a TV: your moves pass through our relay server, which forwards them to the other players and keeps nothing once the game ends. Other players see your name, color and moves. They never see your internet address. The relay uses your address only while you're connected, to stop abuse (for example, someone guessing game codes or flooding a game). These counts are kept in memory and forgotten within the hour. They are never written to disk or logged.
- Casting: when you cast to a Chromecast, Google's Cast service starts Grid Party's TV page on your TV. Google's own privacy policy covers that service.
What we count
The relay keeps one number per day for each kind of game: how many online games and TV sessions were started that day. These are plain totals, with nothing that identifies a person, device or address. Games on the same Wi-Fi aren't counted at all.
The app stores (Google Play and the Microsoft Store) tell us how many people installed the app, as they do for every developer.
Our hosting
This site and the relay run on Cloudflare, which handles the network connection and so sees internet addresses as part of delivering any website. We've turned off request logging for the relay. Cloudflare's privacy policy covers what it does as our host. The app's About page loads the current list of Patreon supporters from this site, which sends nothing about you.
Puzzles you add
Puzzles you add from a file or a link go straight to your device. In the web version, a link to another site is fetched through our relay, because browsers don't let one website read another's files. The relay passes the file along and keeps nothing.
Puzzle sources you turn on are checked the same way: straight from your device in the apps, and through our relay in the web version. Which sources you follow stays on your device.
Children
Grid Party collects nothing from anyone, including children.
